Let’s commit to a safe workplace.

This week marks the start of Safe Work Month 2023.  Just like a resolution on new year’s day, they work better if you already believe that something is going to happen.

So today, let’s make a commitment in all our workplaces: A safe workplace where mental and physical wellbeing thrive, where no injury or death is acceptable.

Let’s visualise our workplace in 12 months – or in five years.  A workplace where all leaders and employees are thriving and delivering against our bottom line because they’re unafraid, safety is part of the culture, and they can focus on success.

It’s inspiring, right?

There are so many ways to get there.  And this month, we’re suggesting everyone start with a “safe tea” as suggested by Safe Work Australia.

A leader we collaborated with once expressed that receiving feedback is a valuable gift, as it demonstrates that someone took the time to share their thoughts and demonstrates that they care. Therefore, periodically checking in with your team and soliciting their feedback can offer you valuable insights.

We suggest getting your team together and asking them:

How would you, as workers, like to be consulted on work health and safety?

Would anyone like to raise any health or safety concerns relating to our work and/or the workplace?

Get a large post-it or butcher paper and write these questions on the top – leave markers in the kitchen area so that your team can add their thoughts throughout the month.

And, if you don’t want to lead the conversation, but want us to come and help you – you know where we are. We’re here to help.
